View Our Strategies

Staying Customer Focused and Market Driven

Being customer focused means we know and understand the products and services the customers in our chosen markets and channels will purchase. We develop, distribute, and sell products and services that meet each customer’s individual needs. Being market driven means we concentrate on serving customers in our chosen markets.

Seeking Continuous Improvement

Continuous improvement means we relentlessly pursue improvements that benefit our customers, employees, and company. This includes improvements that create higher levels of customer satisfaction and retention, increase efficiencies, and reduce costs. The scope of our continuous improvement includes our processes, systems, skills, knowledge, and the products and services we develop and deliver to our markets and distribution channels. In addition, we have a business continuity plan that helps us respond to emergencies and disasters so that we can continue to meet the needs of our customers.

Acting with Integrity in All We Do

Integrity means we conduct business in a fair, honest, and ethical manner and keep the promises we make to our customers, agents, employees, business partners, and communities.

Creating a Positive Work Environment

A positive work environment is one that enables people to make the most of their abilities and potential, while balancing their work and family life. It is an environment supported by trust, respect, a sense of fairness, and a sincere concern for everyone.

Being Results Driven

Results are the end state we desire. Being focused on results means we know how to measure them and have strategies to accomplish them. Our efforts bring value to our company when they produce desired results.

Working Together as a Team

Working together means each of us takes ownership for the work that must be done and willingly works with others to ensure that everyone uses his or her unique talents in the achievement of desired results. In working together as a team, we share information freely throughout the company, generate ideas, and translate them into actions to deliver the results our customers expect.

Corporate Culture

Diversity and Inclusion Committee

American Enterprise's diversity and inclusion committee hosts a book club, volunteer opportunities, training sessions, and more to make all employees feel heard and seen.

Anniversary Celebrations

We celebrate employees who have milestone work anniversaries. This year, employees were recognized for 5 to 40 years of service.

Special Events

Through the year, our Culture Club hosts special events, such as free breakfasts, salsa and chili contests, social hours, and office games.

Charitable Giving

Supporting the communities where we live and work is a fundamental part of who we are at American Enterprise.

Callanan Middle School Partnership

American Enterprise and Callanan Middle School have one of the longest business and school partnerships in Des Moines. For more than 45 years, we have supported the students with mentoring activities and collecting school supplies.

Meals from the Heartland

American Enterprise hosted an event in our Des Moines office for Meals from the Heartland, a non-profit organization that packages meals for malnourished people in Iowa, the United States, and the world. Our 155 volunteers exceeded our goal by packaging 20,950 meals.

Rebuilding Together

American Enterprise partners with the Des Moines chapter of Rebuilding Together, which rebuilds homes to make them safer and healthier for local low-income families. Employees help fix critical home repairs and make modifications for accessibility.

Charities we support

As a member of the Des Moines, IA; Omaha, NE; and Ogden, UT, communities, American Enterprise maintains a social responsibility to support local, non-profit community organizations providing our time, talent and resources. As individuals and as an organization, we take pride in strengthening the communities where we live and work.
